Staying Trim In Today’S Economy- Buy And Sell Used Cisco Hardware

Darwin Redshield asked:

In today’s economy, running a lean, efficient business is often the only way to survive. Companies across the country are looking for various ways to cut costs, pinch pennies, and concentrate on the bottom line.

Many of today’s next-generation businesses spend a tremendous amount of money on their company’s network infrastructure. This is an important aspect of any modern business: the ability for management, processing, sales, and clients to effortlessly communicate across geographic barriers.

Just as important in this network infrastructure is the ability for a company to retain proprietary information without breaches in security. So how can a company stay lean and save money, while still getting the best enterprise network equipment available?

Cisco Systems makes quality networking equipment that often retains a great value even after a bit of wear and tear.

Some companies dispose of networking equipment that is no longer functioning, but can still be recycled and refurbished for sale and reuse. In today’s economy, many downsizing companies are also getting rid of ‘fresh out-of-the-package’ networking hardware because they no longer have the need for a large centralized network.

Either way, there are various ways for an enterprise to buy and sell used cisco hardware, or any brand name network equipment. Making an enterprise purchase of a used cisco router, firewall, or switch can often mean a difference in tens of thousands of dollars, with little difference in the quality of the purchase.

The money saved buying used networking hardware can be diverted to other integral parts of a business, like retaining a quality sales team.

There are several great ways to buy and sell used Cisco equipment. One is utilizing the world’s biggest rummage sale: Ebay.com. On Ebay you can browse through a wide assortment of networking hardware, including new, pre-owned, refurbished and used equipment from a variety of sellers. Some of these products often come at a fraction of the cost a business would pay for standard ‘off the shelf’ equipment.

The risk to using Ebay for network equipment purchases are the potential shipping costs and the fact that no product is 100% certified to give your business what it needs.

There are several online network hardware resellers who do provide both a trusted warranty and 100% product certification for used networking hardware. Many resellers offer large network hardware product catalogs as well as a slew of services for brand name equipment- from cisco repair to cisco buy back and recycling.

Using a trusted vendor can often mean a long standing B2B relationship, where they will provide only the best in products and services in return for repeat business. Just searching online for your desired product and you should be able to easily find a suitable network hardware vendor.

Dropship Wholesale Distributors Search Tip 1 – Short Listing: Do a simple search for your product with the words dropshipper, dropshipping, wholesale, distributor, dropship wholesale or wholesaler as the main keyword. For example, if you are selling hand phone accessories, you might consider terms with quotes like “hand phone accessories dropshipper” or “hand phone accessories wholesale distributors”. This should give you a list of potential wholesale distributors. But your job will never end with that. Once again, do a simple search for the words dropshipper or wholesaler and forums and read the posts there. Look out for frequently mentioned wholesale distributor names. Start to get information about these wholesale dropshippers.

Dropship Wholesale Distributors Search Tip 2 – Make Use of Keyword Tools

Another tip is that which I am going to teach you is make use of free keyword tools that available online such as Word Tracker, Google Keyword Research Tool or Yahoo’s Overture Internet Keyword Tool. Perform a keyword search for terms like your preferred product for instance hand phone accessories, hand phone accessories dropshippers and handphone accessories wholesalers. The reason to find out these keywords are to look at what people are searching for. From this simple tip, you get to know what your potential customers want, and which wholesale dropshippers are hot. This is called market research.

Dropship Wholesale Distributors Search Tip 3 – Check out Ebay

You are would already selling your products on Ebay or other auction sites. Search in your market category for your competitors’ similar products. Most resellers do carry some hot selling items. Sometimes it pays to make a small purchase of such product so that you can check out the labels and trace the manufacturer. Make contact with the manufacturer and discuss on possible dropshipping agreements.

Dropship Wholesale Distributors Search Tip 4 – Online Classified Ad Sites

Search for online classified ad sites such as Craiglist and USFreeAds. These are the places where you may find the best products that you are selling. Compare the prices of these against what you are selling. If you notice there is a difference, there is a strong likelihood that the seller is getting his or her products from a cheaper and possibly better dropship or wholesale distributor. Place an order for the product and look at the postage to see if it gives you the address and contact number of the sender. This doesn’t always work but dropshippers do include their return address in case the parcel is lost especially if the good is shipped to overseas.

Dropship Wholesale Distributors Search Tip 5 – Powerful Wholesale Directory

There are online directories that have done thorough research on dropship wholesale distributors. Normally, they will conduct interviews and surveys, and attend trade shows to get potential wholesale dropshippers to include in their online directories. Information such as product lines, company details etc are will be filed. The advantage to you as a reseller is these directories can help you to find the lowest prices, ie true wholesale prices without any intermediate charges, locate unique niche products to sell and find any dropshipper according to your business needs. A Cashless Society: a Future of our Own Making

Martin Mcallister asked:

The notion of a cashless society has been around for quite some time. The first mechanical cash dispenser was built by Luther George Simjian in 1939 and was installed in New York in 1939. However lack of customer adoption resulted in it being removed six months later.

The electronic cash machines we know today were invented a quarter-of-a-century later by Hampshire printing firm, De La Rue; the same company behind high-security paper and printing technologies used in the printing of bank notes. Actor Reg Varney from the popular 1960s TV sit-com ‘On The Buses’ was the first person to use the new cash machine, which was seen to be a strong guerrilla marketing tactic and designed to ensure public adoption of the electronic cash dispenser. As a result, the cashless society was born.

In recent times, the number of cashless alternatives has continued to grow. No longer confined to banks or building societies, cash machines can now be found everywhere; from petrol stations to pubs and there are also more credit and debit card options available than ever before. Furthermore, transactions such as salary payments and direct debits are performed by BACS (Banks automated clearing system), while e-commerce has gained almost worldwide acceptance.

In March 2000, ‘Confinity’, a palm-pilot payment and cryptography company merged with X.com, an Internet financial services company. This merger created the online payment service, PayPal, which was well-received by internet users, with its members being rewarded with $5 for every new member they referred. Before long, Paypal was adopted as the preferred payment method for the online auction site, eBay. Today PayPal boasts in excess of 123 million accounts and operates in 55 different markets, including China.

With such widespread adoption, PayPal can now be used to buy a wide variety of goods and services. Not only can it be used to buy and sell goods on eBay, but PayPal can also be used to reserve a hotel room online. In fact, some of the UK’s leading tour operators have started accepting PayPal transactions via their website. Google are also planning to launch Google Checkout, an online payment service which will further contribute towards the notion of a cashless society.

Nowadays, even teenagers are being targeted towards a cashless society, with a major credit card firm recently launching a prepayment card aimed at children. Although these cards are limited by the amount that their parents deposit onto the card, the scheme has seen a number of concerns raised by the National Consumer Council, who have warned that the cards will get children so used to spending money that isn’t theirs, they will find themselves hopelessly in debt once they are old enough to apply for a credit card. However, supporters of the scheme believe that the cards will familiarize children with using plastic to pay for purchases without spending too much.

It seems that a truly cashless society is inevitable. With recent technological innovations allowing for online banking, bill payments and money transfers, the notion of a cashless society seems to be closer than ever. However, as technology continues to evolve, peoples’ perceptions of a cashless society are getting closer to reality. Some people fear that a cashless society might have a detrimental effect on many of today’s civil liberties that we currently enjoy. For most people though, the advance towards a cashless society is wholeheartedly embraced.

How to Create Good Web Design?

Noah Back asked:

There are many different types of web design, from those built using website templates and ‘build your own’ site building applications to complex content managed and e-commerce web designs such as those used by big brand names like Amazon, eBay and Tesco.

Some companies, even some big name companies, have unprofessional looking and badly designed websites. Some have amazing looking websites but because of their high graphical content and minimal text content can take an age to load, are not user friendly and do not provide what the visitor wants.

Good Website Design

Though many aspects of website design differ from site to site, many things remain the same throughout the majority of websites on the internet. Most notably is the navigation or menu.

The way in which a website’s menu works and looks is very important, as ultimately, visitors to a website are looking for certain criteria that will make them either stay and interact or leave. This ability for a website to keep visitors interested is sometimes referred to as stickiness. Visitors want an attractive visually exciting experience, but perhaps more importantly, they want ‘ease of use’.

Website usability is a key factor for websites that want their visitors to stick around, make an enquiry and ultimately complete a transaction and order a product or service.

Easy to Use Web Design

Internet users tend to prefer easy to use websites, because they do not want to have to learn how to use a website every time they find a new one. They should be able to use a website after only a few seconds of looking around a homepage, any more and they will leave and browse elsewhere.

The need for fast user interaction is vital and therefore having a fast loading website is also important for a website to succeed. Even with faster internet connections such as broadband, internet users don’t want to wait around.

Just imagine, if you go to a shop on the high street and are totally ignored by shop assistants at the counter for 5 minutes, even after you have made it clear you want help. There is a correlation here to how an internet user may feel, when they arrive at a website that has been poorly designed, is difficult to use, unfriendly and slow to load.

Making sure that a website has been well thought out and designed with the user in mind, displays a company’s unique selling points within easily recognisable eye catching calls for action and has a clear, easy to use menu is key to its success.

Flash Web Design

With recent web design advancements, such as the introduction of Flash animation and high definition video content, impressive websites have been produced to take advantage of much higher levels of visual effects and interaction. However with this ‘high end’ web design, comes a price, more often than not, web designs which rely heavily upon Flash content are often ridiculously slow to load. They often have a progress bar, which slowly goes across the web browser to signify when the website will finish loading.

This is much like the progress bars that you may be familiar with if you use video editing or 3D rendering software, or if you use games consoles where they are displayed whilst you wait for games to load.

Internet users on the whole do not want to wait 3 – 5 minutes for a web page to load even if it does feature high resolution images, animation or video. They want fast informative content rich websites. If they wanted to watch an animation or video they would watch TV.

Good Flash Web Design

This is not to say that Flash animation is all bad news and shouldn’t be used in web design. If used subtly and in small amounts it can make a website more visually appealing without slowing the load time down too much. Suitable uses for Flash animation in web design are things such as; Flash banner advertisements, Flash video and interactive Flash forms for online questionnaires or business presentations.

Using Flash for a whole website design however, is not such a good idea. It slows the user’s experience down because they have to wait for elements of it to load. Also, sites totally developed in Flash tend to use unfamiliar menu structures and features. This can confuse visitors who just want to quickly interact with the website and not be amazed by the way the menu animates.

Just because you can do these things in Flash, it doesn’t mean they have any real working value in the real world. They may look pretty, but if they are not functional and only irritate the visitor then they have no real value.

Flash Web Design & SEO

Another argument against using Flash to create a whole website is that it dramatically reduces the effectiveness of your websites’ Search Engine Optimisation. Flash web designs are made up of one main file within a web page which search engines find difficult to index. This is because the text within them is usually graphical text and therefore is not usually accessible by search engines.

Some recent developments allow some text to be displayed for search engines in Flash websites, but this is nowhere near as effective as text content within traditional HTML based websites.

Don’t Write Off Flash in Web Design

Although Flash does have its limitations it also has its good points if used correctly. For instance; Flash animation is usually smaller in file size than traditional gif animation and because of the way it is made the animation flows smoother than gif animation too.

Having said this, I would recommend only using Flash in small areas within a site to compliment other imagery that makes up the overall design.

Finding a balance between minimal graphical elements, imagery, Flash and good quality informative text is the key to a successful user friendly website. This isn’t to say that web design needs be boring. By working with quality web design companies there’s no reason why you couldn’t have a visually exciting, well designed, easy to use and successful website.

Visually Stimulating Web Design

When visitors first arrive at a website, they want to be impressed and engaged with what the website has to offer. This will be determined by the ways in which the web designer has laid out the website’s content text, images and features.

Arranging elements such as imagery, text, graphics, flash and video in such a way as to keep the visitor interested in the website is the key to good web design. If a website has poor design and doesn’t grab the attention of the visitor in the first few seconds, then it may well be dismissed as just another average website. This ultimately means the visitor will go elsewhere to spend their time and, more importantly, money.

Good Web Design Layout

A lot of time and money is spent making sure that the right elements of websites are positioned in the right places. Companies spend large amounts of money conducting research into how internet users use their websites.

This type of research shows where their visitors’ eyes concentrate the most, which elements of the website they click on first and generally how they interact and use their websites.

Most internet users will look primarily from the top left either across the page, or down the left hand side of the web page through an internet browser via a computer, mobile phone or TV set.

I would hazard a guess, that they are looking for the company’s name or logo, their main selling points or slogans and then what the website has to offer in terms of what is featured in the menu. After which their eyes are probably drawn across the page content and over to the right hand side. Successful web design usually takes this into consideration and will ultimately affect the way a website looks.

There are of course rather famous exceptions to this rule for instance one rather well known search engine has a web design which is quite different. The main focus and core functionality in their web design is located right in the centre of the page. This however, isn’t any ordinary website with tens or even hundreds of pages of products and services to display, its main focus is its recognisable logo and of course its search box. It does however feature a small minimal menu across the top of the web design, which flows from left to right. So even they have taken onboard some of the research undertaken into internet users’ habits.

If you go looking at websites after reading this article, I can guarantee that most of the web designs you’ll see, will have a left hand menu and a defined header bar with a company logo and slogan across it.
