Neo-Tech Views On Ayn Rand and Objectivism

Nathan F. Shaw asked:

Ayn Rand valued Aristotle’s philosophy and developed her own philosophy of reason called Objectivism. Aristotle’s philosophy adhered to the logic of A ‘is’ A, but Alfred Korzybski took ‘is’ away. Frank R Wallace replaced it all with Neo-Tech Objectivism.

Frank R Wallace quoted Ayn Rand saying ‘save me from the Radians’. Ayn Rand was her self repulsed by the cult-ish obsession coming from Objectivists at that time.

Ayn Rand, the founder of Objectivism, was an inspiration to Frank R Wallace. Ayn Rand’s influence on early versions of Neo-Tech Power is obvious. Wallace showed great admiration for Objectivism, particularly Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged.

Neo-Tech sought to convert that rigid dogmatic cult following of Ayn Rand into a highly leveraged force of intelligence and influence.

Wallace once suggested that Ayn Rand’s character John Galt had influential powers probably beyond realistic possibility. Ayn Rand claimed that her hero’s revealed the reality of man. Ayn Rand’s Objectivism seems to have provided no such real life hero (that I am aware of). Wallace’s Neo-Tech later went on to describe The Greatest Discovery Ever! and the ‘wpgsh’ phenomenon of societal influence.

In fact, reading Ayn Rand’s early fiction, you can clearly see a natural dislike of reality that Rand seems to have imbued. Cuts from The Fountainhead show Howard Roarke as almost schizophrenic in his lack of mindfulness. I seem to remember the character even claiming he was incapable of love. He clearly seemed that way in the cut edits that never made it into the published version of The Fountainhead. Neo-Tech approaches human experience from a very different angle. Neo-Tech’s evolution rises from research into the history of love, with human happiness as being the primary goal. This was not clearly expressed in Ayn Rand’s writings. Perhaps it would have been her next novel.

I believe Ayn Rand’s Objectivism cleared a path for Neo-Tech to evolve for providing the ‘human’ side of the hard facts of reality.

What differences are there between Neo-Tech and Objectivism?

Objectivism used 5 classifications of philosophy. Here they are with Objectivism keyword for each category in the brackets.

I’m going to call them Objectivism Metaphysics (Reality), Objectivism Epistemology (Reason), Objectivism Politics (Capitalism), Objectivism Aesthetics (never defined), and Objectivism Ethics (self-interest).

Neo-Tech’s definitions for Neo-Tech Metaphysics (Business), Neo-Tech Epistemology (Neo-Think), Neo-Tech Politics (Free competition), Neo-Tech Ethics (Value production), and Neo-Tech Aesthetics (Value reflection).

Perhaps Frank R Wallace and Ayn Rand would have come to rather narrow agreements in a personal discussion. Wallace would certainly have seen far and wide. Ayn Rand might have slapped his face.

Neo-Tech broadens the reach of Objectivism, both philosophically, and commercially.

Similarities between Neo-Tech and Objectivism

Both Neo-Tech and Objectivism posit the primacy of existence to consciousness. In easier language that simply means that reality exists ‘before’ consciousness has a place to exist. Platonic mysticism and Kant would argue that consciousness is primary, that reality is seated within this thing we call consciousness. Both Neo-Tech and Objectivism strongly disagree.

A Tale of Two Ad:Techs — NY and Shanghai

Joseph Pratt asked:

Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, The Matrix of ancient Greece, suggests that the totality of our perceptions conspire to divert us from larger truths and my experience at ad:tech New York would support its argument. Garish memories of catchy doo-dads and occasional run-ins with kooky characters once again defined the event as I experienced it while blotting out the greater reality of the event. I’m not saying I spent two full days in a surreal funhouse, but for the rest of the week I was calculating the shame/profit ratio that would ensue if I were to start wearing bright suits festooned with punctuation marks. I needed some time to dissociate from the glitz before I could go back and start tackling relatively mundane issues, such as how today’s interactive trends will influence tomorrow’s advertising dollar.

And weren’t we all giddy, though? Prior to November’s grand affair at the New York Hilton when I wasn’t thinking about which cocktail socials were lined up for which campaigns, I was focused on the impeding attack of some 7,000 attention starved conventioneers. I, along with the dozen-plus scheduled to work the conference from ICMediaDirect.com, ran through what questions we’d hear and, wisely, “what do you guys do?” was the number one question anticipated. We were a conference sponsor and prominently tabled across the foyer from the registration desks so it was imperative for us to be well-prepared in response to all queries of our company’s business. And we were.

Our central positioning during ad:tech allowed me to greet the seemingly endless crowd marching back and forth from the featured speaker venues and the exhibitor floors. I hear that total attendance was north of 8,300. But even if that figure was doubled, I doubt that I could have made any more contacts — it was simply that busy. It felt like no locale mattered more to my profession than where I was then; I mean, were we not in New York City participating in the biggest and baddest convention in the interactive field? I can’t speak for others, but at times it was easy for me to forget that I was merely doing business and not changing the planet.

Diana Lee, ICMediaDirect.com’s VP of Business Development, not only coordinated the New York event for us, but was scheduled to leave at the week’s end to run our operation at the inaugural convention ad:tech Shanghai, which we also sponsored. All that this meant for me, really, was that someone was getting to go on an extended trip to China, lucky her. As far as Shanghai itself was concerned; well, come on, someone’s got to slog through the interactive backwaters, right? A fluent speaker of Mandarin and an outgoing marketing pro, Diana was the ideal candidate for such a foray.

I sat with Diana to recount her trip after she returned to the ICMediaDirect.com’s office in the Empire State Building. The level of sophistication presented at ad:tech Shanghai genuinely surprised her and she remarked that the Chinese people will certainly continue to immerse themselves online.

China’s economic ministers must have recognized that their people, like Western consumers, value innovative technology and appreciate choice. The economic boon generated by the resulting consumerism has helped to entice the government to cautiously explore foreign investment over these past few years.

And nowhere will this impact be more dramatically felt than in interactive marketing. The advertising potential for China’s online population is simply more attractive than any other market. Consider this, roughly 250 million Chinese are already online (more than ten times the number 5 years ago) in an economy that’s been growing steadily at 8-9%. This enormous audience, which will parallel the total census numbers of the US by 2008, represents only the one-fifth of their population on the Internet. Let’s recap. In two more years the number of Chinese consumers online will equal the total number of people in the US.

If there is a place to invest in business advertising, it is online in China.

In fact, our dutiful representative told me that in China, search engine marketing is the same hot ticket that it has been here recently. Although shouldn’t have surprised me, it momentarily did. Maybe I was thinking that the Chinese interactive entities, being relatively late entrants into an evolving game, owe it to the world to be heavily immersed in a few fruitless tactics, like keyword stuffing for instance, before adopting today’s darlings.

My short-sightedness has no logic, folks, except provincialism. And from such a mindset leaks notions that one ad:tech event might be of a higher inherent tech relevance than another. I was wrong. The Internet and its applications are truly universal and what matters most is who’s using it and how, not where people gather to gab about it.

Beijing’s history of disinterest in consumer choice for its people hasn’t ended without its ramifications. The Chinese, who do not share our storied and anesthetizing love affair with consumer-targeted advertiser-supported television, are more open than we are to utilizing the Internet as a primary source of information, like news. In fact, many believe that the Chinese are starting to prefer the Internet as a primary source of daily news. Obviously, many of those reading these words also feel the same way, but let’s remember that much of our country is falling all over itself in speculation over who the next anchor will be at CBS. I guess this matters to some people.

While internet advertising monies continue in a ‘break-out’ mode, the reports of aggregate advertising revenues in “traditional” mediums in China have leveled off to the rates of a maturing business. We are all given to think, perhaps, that technology’s march is sure, certain and inevitable. But we should lend this particular trend in China its own context – the Chinese experience just might be a glimpse into our own future. In a scenario where advertiser-driven television and the Internet all came down the pike about the same time, the Chinese may be indicating that they value the internet the most. Granted, they may still be taking their “baby steps” into the interactive marketplace, but we in the West are the ones with more traditional advertising baggage to shed due to our comfort level with the **** tube. As China matures the day may come when their inclusion of the Internet into everyday life will be our model to emulate. Now, that’s hot.

A Review of the Cell Tech Income Opportunity

Brian & Jeff asked:

The Cell Tech ******** Advantage is the worlds most powerful creatine formula. They have started and new revolution in the way you build muscle. This product is sold in health food stores, but the way it works, is you can become a wholesale distributor for the company and market this product.

I was not able to find my information as far as what it needed to become a retail rep, but I do have some information on the Cell Tech product itself.

Cell Tech is a supplier of a Creatine supplement that is used by bodybuilders. Creatine works to increase muscle mass and most professional athletes use it to improve their athletic performance.

So what is Creatine and why is there so much talk about everywhere in the chats and Internet forums? Creatine is created by the body and gives energy to muscle cells in the form of a nitrogenous organic acid. Michel Eugine Chevreul, in 1832, discovered that creatine was a component of skeletal muscle and has a good use in that application.

What does Creatine do? Well, it has two basic functions that benefit the body builder once it is broken down into creatine Phosphate. Then the ATP and ADP (these are multifunctional nucleotides) energy ratio in the body is increased, therefore reducing the loss of adenosine nucleotides. (benefit of cell function).

How does this help me? In 1912, researchers noticed that when creatine was ingested, that the muscle mass increased. Then the relationship between the skeletal muscle metabolism and creatine was discovered, and that it worked best along with the creatine phosphate. The results have been seen again and again with athletes that have added boost to their performance. And if they are used as a supplement, they perform better in their sports.

All of this can be done with a company called Cell Tech. They make a body supplement that will build muscle for you in a healthy and natural way. Cell Tech is claimed by body builders everywhere to be the best supplement on the market. You use it after a workout to replace the cells that were damaged during a tough workout.

One of the biggest tasks you’ll have before joining cell tech will be to find a reliable sponsor. You can do this with an interview but don’t always believe everything you hear. You might want to go upline a few levels and speak with a few people before you make a final decision as to who to join. Make sure they are able and willing to do a three way call with anyone you bring to the table. Also make sure they have some sort of training system you can plug your prospects into.

When you are working out, you burn a lot of sugar, so you need to have that sugar replenished in order to keep up. Cell Tech will do that for you. Once you take a dose of Cell Tech, directly after your workout, you will get an instant surge of insulin in your blood. This will enable you to continue your workout without wearing down.

Georgia Tech Football

Freddie Brister asked:

Football and athletics always has seemed to be an “afterthought” at Georgia Tech. Education and the struggle for excellence has always been the priority at Georgia Tech.

“I’m a Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech and a helluva engineer. A helluva, helluva, helluva, helluva, hell of an engineer.”

Those words from one of America’s most famous fight songs typify the spirit of athletics at Georgia Tech, a school with one of the most storied and honored traditions in college athletics.

Ever since 1892, when the first football team was organized on The Flats, Georgia Tech teams in all sports have represented the Institute in outstanding fashion while producing some of the best-known names in athletics. Tech has won four National Championships in football in the years 1917, 1928, 1952, and 1990. The Yellow Jacket football teams have one of the nation’s best records in bowl games at 22-14. Over the past 100 years, Tech has had only 12 head football coaches: John Heisman, Bill Alexander, Bobby Dodd, Bud Carson, Bill Fulcher, Pepper Rodgers, Bill Curry, Bobby Ross, Bill Lewis, George O’Leary, Chan Gailey and the present coach, Paul Johnson.

In the fall of 1891, before Georgia Tech organized a football team of its own, a game was scheduled between Auburn and Georgia. Due to the rivalry established in baseball games between Tech and Georgia (which is still strong after more than 100 years), the Tech students were invited to the game to cheer, of course, for Auburn. At a mass meeting, the students appointed a committee to recommend colors to be worn and cheers to be used at the game. The committee suggested white and gold, and about 200 students attended the game wearing school colors for the first time.

In 1893, when Tech’s football team played its first official game against Georgia, a group of young women from the Lucy Cobb Institute for Girls, dressed in white and gold, attended the game to cheer for Tech. These ladies were some of the earliest Tech supporters to show their allegiance by wearing the now-traditional colors.

The Yellow Jacket nickname and mascot are two of the most beloved trademarks of Georgia Tech athletic teams, but many conflicting accounts exist as to the origins and beginnings of the Yellow Jacket. One thing that is clear, however, is that the nickname did not grow out of the familiar six-legged insect, but instead that the insect mascot, known as “Buzz,” grew out of the nickname.

As far as can be determined, the first reference to Tech students as “Yellowjackets” appeared in the Atlanta Constitution in 1905 and became common usage at that time.

Historians say the name, spelled as one word, was first used to describe supporters who attended Tech athletic events, dressed in yellow coats and jackets. The actual mascot was conceived at a later date.

Other common nicknames which have applied to Georgia Tech teams include Engineers, which is still used by some writers; the Techs, the first known nickname which was phased out sometime around 1910; and the Blacksmiths, which was common between 1902 and 1904. Georgia Tech football has one of the most “storied” traditions and historical memories in College Football…Here a re just a few that TECH fans all remember:

The Cumberland Game. On Oct. 17, 1916, John Heisman’s team crushed Cumberland College 222-0 in the most lopsided and highest-scoring game in college football history.

The 1929 Rose Bowl, where Cal’s Roy Riegels ran the wrong way, Tech won 8-7 and claimed its second national championship.

Oct. 3, 1942, when Tech finally won at Notre Dame for the first time in eight tries, 13-6. Freshman phenom Clint Castleberry threw a touchdown pass in his only season on The Flats, before dying while piloting a plane during World War II.

Nov. 6, 1976: Tech 23, Notre Dame 14. In the “Passless Upset,” the Jackets _ with freshman QB Gary Lanier running Pepper Rodgers’ option to perfection _ didn’t throw a pass in shocking the Irish.

Nov. 11, 1978: Tech 42, Air Force 21. On the frozen tundra in Colorado Springs, Eddie Lee Ivery ran wild for 356 yards, breaking the NCAA single-game rushing record.

Nov. 8, 1980: Tech 3, Notre Dame 3. Bill Curry’s first team as head coach of the Jackets stunned the unbeaten, No. 1 Irish and nearly beat them before a late, tying field goal.

Nov. 3, 1990: Tech 41, Virginia 38. In Charlottesville, in likely the most significant victory in Tech annals, the Jackets staged a phenomenal comeback against No. 1 Virginia’s potent offense. Shawn Jones and William Bell led the resurgence, and Scott Sisson’s field goal with 7 seconds left stunned UVA and sent Tech on to the National Championship.

Tradition and integrity continues at GA TECH as one of the most celebrated alumni, Bill Curry, now returns to Atlanta to help build Georgia State University into a Football Contender. Curry has been named the FIRST Head Coach for the Atlanta University in establishing and building a football program, beginning play in 2010.

More tradition, more football in the “Deep South”…………….

Tech Support And Root Canal (Humor)

Josh Greenberger asked:

Which one is more painful: calling tech support or root canal?

Calling tech support can be a lot like going to the dentist with a toothache, whereupon the dentist pulls out one tooth at a time and keeps asking if it still hurts. He finally gets to the last tooth and says, “Ah, that’s the one.”

Tech support people fall into three major categories: those who know what they’re talking about, those who have no idea what they’re talking about but think they do, and those who know they don’t know what they’re talking about but want to convince you they do. It’s this last one you really have to worry about. They’ll keep you on the phone for as long as it takes to convince you that the problem is in your head and that your CD drive is SUPPOSED to sound like a washing machine during an earthquake.

When being told by tech support that a problem is not resolvable, try calling back. With most major companies, you’ll probably get another person whom you can present with the same problem. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve called back after being told a problem is not resolvable and then being given the solution by the next tech support person I spoke to.

This approach may also be worthwhile when you are given a solution that may take you a considerable amount of time to test after you hang up. Rather than spend two hours just to find out the “solution” doesn’t work, call again. If the second solution matches the first, there’s a decent chance it’s the correct one. If not, if the first one told you that your printer won’t print, for example, because your new cartridge is defective and the second one told you that it won’t print because your toaster is on “Extra Dark” (the logic behind it might be something like, the toaster is ******* away all the “black stuff” from your printer), it’s a good idea to call back. No, not to find out how to lower the setting on your toaster; to find out if anyone at tech support is from the same planet as your printer’s manufacturer.

But don’t overdo the calling back. I once called about 4 or 5 times from a cell phone in a bad reception area. After giving my name, phone number, and a description of the problem, I lost the phone signal before getting a response. By the time I called back from a new location with better reception, they told me they already had me down as calling several times about the same issue and could no longer support me on this matter. Thank god my plumber doesn’t work this way.

In another instance, I called tech support just before sitting down to eat supper. The guy gave me so many “solutions” before giving me the correct one, by the time I got back to my supper, what was originally meat and potatoes, was now meat, potatoes and mushrooms.

The lessons to be learned from all this are, first, don’t be afraid to call back more than once for the same problem — but don’t abuse the privilege. And if you’re going to call from a cell phone, be sure to call with your free unlimited anytime minutes — because there’s always that chance you’ll get someone with unlimited solutions and you won’t be free any time soon.

Virginia Tech Tailgating: Keys to Success

Glen Vanlanding asked:

The sales of Virginia Tech apparel, including Virginia Tech sweatshirts, Virginia Tech t-shirts , and Virginia Tech jerseys has exploded along with it, and Saturdays (and sometimes Thursdays or other days of the week) in Blacksburg are filled with people wearing maroon and orange. Virginia Tech football tickets are in high demand.

Proper tailgating for Hokie games takes proper tools and methods. First of all, you need your tailgating spot. Location is key. This all comes down to being or knowing a Hokie Club member with significant ranking that has a good parking spot. The Hokie Club utilizes a variety of parking lots on campus close (and some not so close) to Lane Stadium to assign tailgate spots, and you want to make sure you get a good one. Buy a Virginia Tech football parking pass from an online auction site like eBay if necessary.

Next, make sure you are dressed for the occasion. It all depends on the weather, but an authentic Virginia Tech jersey (either maroon or white) works great. If it’s a crisp fall day, get your favorite Virginia Tech sweatshirt. If it’s early in the season and warm, grab a Virginia Tech t-shirt, maybe a long sleeve t-shirt if you want to stay cool. A fleece, pullover, shell, or sleek Virginia Tech golf shirt are also options. I always try to wear maroon – we are a maroon school. Orange, white, and other colors dilute the stadium effect.

Hokie tailgates are all about food and beverage, so this should be top priority. I like getting there early so that the grill can be set up and given enough time to smoke some sort of meat for hours, maybe ribs, Boston butt, or marinated whole chickens. But grilling in general should be the centerpiece of your tailgate. Burgers, sausages, chicken, steaks, or fish can all make great tailgate fare. Hokie country is bar-b-que country, so choose a sauce that fits what you are grilling and will make your tailgate guest happy. Complement your meat with whatever sides and snacks you or anyone else can bring.

Food is a priority, but beverages are the backbone of your tailgate. Personally, I equate football tailgating with ‘brown water’, aka bourbon. There’s nothing like a good Kentucky bourbon or Tennessee whisky to get you ready for game day. However, this is a personal thing, and you need to have a variety of beverages, but alcoholic and non-alcoholic, to satisfy your guest (or have them bring their own).

Other important aspects of your tailgate: How are people going to find your spot? Get a tall Virginia Tech Flag , customize it some and fly it high. Also, deck you Hokie tailgate out with Virginia Tech chairs, coolers, and blankets. Everyone should be drinking out of Hokie cups and mugs too. While the Hokie matchup is obviously the most important game of the day, there will be lots of other great college football on. People at your tailgate are going to want to watch other games (or they’ll go somewhere else). Do what other great tailgaters do and get a portable satellite dish you hook up to a receiver and TVs you can quickly scramble to set up in the morning. A blow up Virginia Tech sofa right in front is also a nice touch.

To me, the sign of a good tailgate is one that everyone wants to go back to after the game.

Why ITT Tech school of criminal justice is not the best choice for you?

Jim Greenberg asked:

As with all other things an educational institution has its own pros and cons. This is also the case with ITT Tech. One of the ost important cons of the ITT Tech school of criminal justice is that the school is not accredited by any of the eight RA accrediting bodies. This means degrees and credits earned at ITT Tech may not find wide acceptance.

The criminal justice program offered by ITT Tech is pretty expensive and it may not be for you if you are in need of a high paying job immediately after completing your criminal justice program. Also, since many regular colleges do not accept the credits from ITT Tech, it will be a waste of time, energy, and money if you have to begin a program from scratch in the event of a relocation or some other similar situation.

An online program from ITT Tech may not be for you if you are looking for the experience of a normal classroom with teachers and classmates physically present. Though there is interaction as in a regular class, it is virtual and may not be the right choice for all. There may be certain loopholes in the agreement which might turn out to be not so pleasant at a later stage. By then it might be too late to withdraw or switch schools.

The schedule may not be what you are looking for and you may have classes during times which are inconvenient for you. This often happens when there are not enough students to justify setting up another batch. Not being in a regular classroom or college can also cause logistical problems and often getting these issues resolved becomes stressful since the communication has to be done through mails or telephone rather than one-on-one communication. These are some of the reasons why it might not be such a good idea to pursue an online criminal justice program from ITT Tech.
