Addictive Comedy/Mystery Show – Castle

Suzanne W McMahon asked:

You may wonder how a new mystery/detective series could get you to watch when network and cable TV is saturated with them. First, Richard Castle is played by the talented Nathan Fillion. Is it possible this is the person who portrayed Dr.Pomattor in Adrienne Shelley’s Waitress? It’s also possible you recognize Nathan from the internet musical ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along’ by Joss Whedon, the creator of the cult sci-fi series ‘Firefly’, also starring Fillion. Invoking the spirit of Phillip Marlowe, Castle will play with all your emotions with a powerful mix of comedy, mystery and romance. And female fans will find a lot to appreciate as well. Then there’s Stana Katic as Detective Kate Beckett. She can be seen in cameos for a variety of programs but she now headlines a show of her own – deservedly I might add. Filling out the strong cast Susan Sullivan portray’s Castle’s mom and Molly C. Quinn plays his daughter Alexis.

But the best interest-riveting force is the writing. Andrew W. Marlowe, Barry Schindel, David Grae, and Charles Murray did a great job with the pilot. After the first show was apprehensive that the writers could keep the intermix of comedy and complex crime stories going for an entire season. Happily I’ve been proved wrong.

The chemistry between Castle and Beckett is palpable which plays well into their love-hate relationship. He is a popular author who has been permitted to keep an eye on Beckett, despite her misgivings. Castle redeems himself with Beckett even though he often gets in the way, speaks out of turn and manages to be annoying. Slowly, Beckett is learning to have faith in Castle, including his risk-taking, and finds herself caring more and more about him. And he has small ways of endearing himself to the staff, such as buying them a very upscale coffee machine.

Adding to the mix are Castle’s mother and daughter who couldn’t be different. His mother is immature, takes advantage, and bears watching. Wise beyond her age, the daughter holds her grandmother in line and provides a lot of support for her father. Castle is a devoted father who worries needlessly (up to this point) about Alexis. As Castle’s daughter Alexis, Molly C. Quinn has the best acting abilities on the program. Expect to see Molly for years to come.

The show has become one of my favorites. Hopefully it will have many more seasons. I’m especially excited about upcoming shows because I just ordered the Comcast HD Triple Play. A short time ago, I finally got my own HDTV so soon I will be able to relax watch all of me favorite TV shows like Castle in high-def sound and picture. I got a great deal that I found online by bundling Digital Cable, High Speed Internet, and flat-rate Digital Voice into one simple low-cost bill. Beyond Digital Cable with HD, I can’t wait to try out my new broadband internet service from Comcast. I could neither view videos online nor hear songs because my obsolete DSL connection responded too slowly. That won’t be an issue now. Now I don’t have to deal with minute by minute charges, due to Comcast Digital Voice. I can call local and long distance nationwide to who ever I like for one low bill. If you are in a Comcast serviceable area you should definitely look at the best deals they’re offering right now. Look into them today before these special promos come to an end.

COMEDY IN MUSIC: Agressive music with comedy and sports

saimgrant asked:

The movie centers around Alex Fletcher (played with ultimate charm by Hugh Grant), a has been member of a former pop group literally named “Pop.” The opening sequence of the film is, in fact, supposed to be a good music video of the group led by Colin (Scott Porter) and Alex (Grant).  Who knew that Grant could make the kind of moves he does in this film? I actually found it kind of in a weird sort of way.

It seems that Alex’s former band, Pop, disbanded years ago when partner Colin went on to become a big star. Alex, on the other hand, never got a break and has ended up playing theme parks, business openings, and class reunions. Just as he is about to give up and admit his has-been status, Alex is approached by his manager to write a song for a current pop star named Cora (played by Haley Bennett). It seems that Cora, who is a weird combination of, Britney, Christina, and Shakira, likes his old songs and wants him to write one for her.

There is a catch, unfortunately, in that although Alex used to write the music for his songs, he never wrote the lyrics. Thorat was the job of his fmer partner. Not wanting lose the gig, which would allow him to sing on stage with Cora, he tasks his manager Chris (played with wit by Brad Garrett) with helping him find a lyricist. But the lyricist that Chris finds for Alex is more suited to heavy metal music than he is to love songs.

As luck would have it, just as the two new partners begin their music collaboration, a girl comes to the door to water Alex’s plants. Sophie Fisher (played adorably by Drew Barrymore), it seems is a natural born lyricist who inadvertently suggests a few lines for the collaboration. Alex finds Sophie’s suggestions much more suited to his style and Voila, a new partnership is born.

Many people decry watching TV as a family activity. ‘There are so many other worthwhile activities to do with a family!’ they wail. Sure there are more active pursuits for families; those activities are often costly and time-consuming. Sometimes, the family just needs to relax and unwind.

Castle – The First Modern Comedy/Mystery on a Major Network

Suzanne W McMahon asked:

How could our attention be maintained by another new police/detective show? Nathan Fillion is the star luminary in the cast, playing the part of Richard Castle Can this really be the same person who played Dr.Pomattor in Waitress? Not doubt it is the same person who played Captain Hammer in ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along’. But this new Phillip Marlowe infuses Castle with the right mixture of wit, mystery, and comedic relief. And female fans will find a lot to appreciate as well. Stana Katic, as Detective Kate Beckett, carries the female counterpoint to Fillion’s Richard Castle. A veteran of supporting roles, Katic now joins Fillion in center stage. Rounding out the ensemble is Molly Quinn playing Castle’s daughter Alexis and Susan Sullivan as his mother Martha Heath.

Even with such a great group of actors it’s the writing that keeps me watching. Written by Barry Schindel, David Grae, Andrew W. Marlowe, and Charles Murray the pilot was a solid introduction to this new series and its characters. After the first show was apprehensive that the writers could keep the intermix of comedy and complex crime stories going for an entire season. Till now i was wrong.

The chemistry between Castle and Beckett is palpable which plays well into their love-hate relationship. Much to her disdain, Castle is given permission to follow Beckett. Castle redeems himself with Beckett even though he often gets in the way, speaks out of turn and manages to be annoying. Little by little, Beckett is learning to rely upon his input, as well as his risk-taking, and care about him. He also endears himself to Beckett’s colleagues with small gestures like purchasing a top-notch coffeemaker for their use.

Castle’s mother and daughter are filled with contrasts. His mom acts immature, has entitlement issues and needs to be seen. Wise beyond her age, the daughter holds her grandmother in line and provides a lot of support for her father. As a devoted father, Castle can’t help buy show concern about his daughter, even though she’s fully capable of taking care of herself. Of all the actors in the series, Molly C. Quinn is one of the best. Given her youth she should have a long career.

The show has become one of my favorites. Hopefully it will have many more seasons. The next season of TV is particularly exiting for me since I just got the HD Triple Play from Comcast. I have come to believe that HDTV is the best way to view all my favorite television shows like Castle, and I look forward to the increased sound and picture quality. I got a great deal that I found online by bundling Digital Cable, High Speed Internet, and flat-rate Digital Voice into one simple low-cost bill. I am really excited to try the Comcast broadband internet service I signed up for that will compliment my Digital Cable very well. The ancient DSL connection I had was so unpredictable and slow I couldn’t watch any videos online or listen to great new music. Now, this will no longer be a problem. And with Comcast Digital Voice, I don’t ever have to worry about per minute phone bills anymore. I can call local and long distance nationwide to who ever I like for one low bill. If you are in a Comcast serviceable area you should definitely look at the best deals they’re offering right now. Look into them today before these special promos come to an end.

Castle – The Resurgence of the Mystery-Comedy on Network TV

Suzanne W McMahon asked:

What could a new police and detective series possibly have to keep our interest? For one thing, Nathan Fillion is the title star, playing Richard Castle. At first it’s hard to believe that this is the same actorn who portrayed Dr.Pomattor in the 2007 independent film Waitress? Not doubt it is the same person who played Captain Hammer in ‘Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along’. But this new Phillip Marlowe infuses Castle with the right mixture of wit, mystery, and comedic relief. Ladies – there is plenty here for you also. Then there’s Stana Katic as Detective Kate Beckett. She can be seen in cameos for a variety of programs but she now headlines a show of her own – deservedly I might add. Rounding out the ensemble is Molly Quinn playing Castle’s daughter Alexis and Susan Sullivan as his mother Martha Heath.

Marlowe, and Charles Murray the pilot was a solid introduction to this new series and its characters. After the first show was apprehensive that the writers could keep the intermix of comedy and complex crime stories going for an entire season. I have been wrong.

Driving the show is the tension filled drama between the two lead characters, Castle and Beckett. He is a successful fiction writer who has been allowed to shadow Beckett, much to her chagrin. Castle redeems himself with Beckett even though he often gets in the way, speaks out of turn and manages to be annoying. Slowly, Beckett is learning to have faith in Castle, including his risk-taking, and finds herself caring more and more about him. Beckett’s co-workers aren’t immune to Castle’s charms either. In one episode he perks everyone up with a new start of the art coffee machine.

Castle’s mother and daughter are filled with contrasts. His mother is immature, takes advantage, and bears watching. Wise beyond her age, the daughter holds her grandmother in line and provides a lot of support for her father. Castle is a dedicated dad who frets without reason (so far) for Alexis. She is one of the best actors in the series. Given her youth she should have a long career.

The show has become one of my favorites. I hope it will continue for several seasons. After ordering the Comcast HD Triple Play, I’m especially excited about the upcoming shows. Now, this will no longer be a problem. And with Comcast Digital Voice, I don’t ever have to worry about per minute phone bills anymore. One flat rate bill gives me the opportunity to call local and long distance to whoever I desire nationwide. If you are in a Comcast serviceable area you should definitely look at the best deals they’re offering right now. Look into them today before these special promos come to an end.

A Comedy of Expenses

Melanie Speed asked:

Once upon a time, there was a new homeowner. Let us call her Jane.

Jane: I finally realized the dream! I own a house! I’m going to celebrate.

Mortgage: No, you’re not.

Jane: Well, I meant in a small way.

Insurance: By ‘small’, I hope you mean “I’m going to walk to the store to buy a chocolate bar” ‘small’.

Jane: Actually, I was hoping to get a new living room set.

Mortgage: WHAT?!

Insurance: How selfish!

Property Taxes: Where’s your sense of civic duty?

Utilities: She never loved us anyway.

Washer: I think I sprang a leak.

Jane: Oh, no, you did not!

Washer: ‘Fraid so. I hope you have the money for the new living room handy.

Jane: Well I was going to put it on my credit card.

Credit Card: Tell me you’re not serious; I’m already at 75% of my limit. Your FICO score is writhing in agony!

Jane: Well, I need the washer, so no living room set.

Mortgage: Well, thank goodness for that.

Credit Card: Phew.

Jane: But I was thinking that I need a new car. I can get it on financing, so my credit card will be okay.

Old Car: Traitor.

Insurance: You’re joking, right?

Jane: My old car is a heap. I got a new house; I want a new car to go with it!

Old Car: And the utilities think she doesn’t love THEM.

Mortgage: Yeah, that’s right; plunge into MORE debt after you’ve made the most expensive purchase of your life. Smart.

Jane: I can afford it.

Property Taxes: Ha ha! Foolish mortal! What if we increase? Where’s your car payment going to come from then, hmmm?

Jane: I’d, um, handle it. How much worse can you get, anyway?

Property Taxes: Just watch us. Kids need to go to school, too, y’know.

Washer: Can you get someone in to repair me? This is getting kind of embarrassing.

Jane: In a minute; I’m still planning my celebration.

Refrigerator: With what? I’m empty.

Jane: I’ll go out and buy some food. Now, let me see…

Mortgage: Not to be a downer, but what happens if you get sick or lose your job? More to the point, what happens to ME if you don’t have any savings in the bank to cover a lean spell?

Jane: I’d… think of something.

Old Car: Like your new car payment?

Property Taxes: Like our increase?

Equity: I’m too young for this discussion.

Utilities: …yep, just pretend we aren’t here. Maybe if we got shut off, she’d remember we exist…

Refrigerator: As I understand it, if you humans can’t buy food, you end up dying after, what? Three weeks? You might want to allow some money for basic foodstuffs…

Jane: FINE. NO new living room. NO new car. Budget for food AND utilities – don’t think I haven’t heard you whining in the background. SMALL celebration.

Washer: What about me?

Jane: You’re getting fixed tomorrow.

Credit Card: Ouch.

Jane: You be quiet; I’m paying you off over my next few paychecks. Now, is there anything else?

Mortgage: No; as long as you aren’t buying everything in sight and start saving some money for unforeseen circumstances, things will probably be okay.

Jane: Good. Now I am going OUT. To CELEBRATE.

Old Car: Gas prices just rose again.

Jane: …fine, I’ll walk to the store. Maybe they have a new kind of chocolate bar I can try.

Two Funny Comedies, “Talladega Nights” and “Wedding Crashers”, But Only One Is a Good Film

Ed Bagley asked:

ght © 2009 Ed Bagley

Wedding Crashers – 3 Stars (Good)

Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby – 2 Stars (Average)

There are comedies that can make you laugh that are not good films because they lack any meaningful substance or worthwhile message. An example would be “Talladega Nights: The Legend of Ricky Bobby”, worth a few laughs with Will Ferrell as Ricky Bobby, but not able to get you emotionally involved in a character’s plight.

Then there are comedies that can make you laugh that appear to have a lack of substance, but slowly pull you into a character as you become emotionally involved with his situation. An example would be “Wedding Crashers” with Owen Wilson as John Beckwith.

So what makes one film good and another just average? The difference is in the script, the direction and the acting.

For openers, Talladega Nights was written by Will Farrell, who also plays the lead role, and by Adam McKay, who is the director. My experience has been that when the director of a film also writes the script, the script, the direction and the movie all suffer the majority of the time. When the lead actor of the film is also a writer of the film, the situation becomes compounded, like the blind leading the deaf through a minefield.

Both Farrell and McKay try to tell a story with their comedy but fail because not only is the comedy unbelievable, but the character of Ricky Bobby is not likeable enough to convince us that there is human drama unfolding here.

McKay joins a long list of other writer/directors who have bombed in these dual roles, including Vanessa Parise (terrible rating) for Kiss the Bride; Peter Weir (average rating) for Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World; Nancy Myers (average rating) for Something’s Gotta Give; Thomas Bezucha (average rating) for The Family Stone; Michael McGowan (average rating) for Saint Ralph; Jared Hess (terrible rating) for Napoleon Dynamite; Robert Rodriguez (terrible rating) for Once Upon a Time in Mexico; and Paul Thomas Anderson (terrible rating) for Punch-Drunk Love.

Exceptions to this dual role as writer/director are Kirk Jones (excellent rating) in Waking Ned Devine, and Tim McCanlies (excellent rating) for Secondhand Lions. Both Jones and McCanlies are master storytellers in these films, and other writer/directors who have failed could learn a lot from them.

Wedding Crashers, another funny comedy, is just the opposite of Talladega Nights in that Steve Faber and Bob Fisher can tell a good story, and David Dobkin can direct a good comedy film. Their effort comes together because Owen Wilson as John Beckwith is likeable and has the acting style and ability to emotionally connect with the viewer.

We can see ourselves in his predicament—living a life of fun and pleasure at the expense of others, and then developing a conscience that foreshadows personal growth.

After taking advantage of so many lovely, unsuspecting bridesmaids, he slows down enough to notice Rachel McAdams as Claire Cleary, who shares his sense of humor and light-heartedness. The more he looks at Claire, the more he wants to look at Claire.

Claire, however, is spoken for by a person she has not yet discovered is really a self-absorbed, dictatorial, manipulative, rich jerk, whereas John Beckwith appears more worthless but is wanting and willing to change his ways.

It is interesting that Vince Vaughn as Jeremy Grey’s character, Beckwith’s wedding crasher partner and best friend, is not nearly as likeable, although he also decides to get married to Claire’s immature, dippy sister Gloria Cleary (Isla Fisher).

I saw the unrated and uncut version of Talladega Nights, and the uncorked (not rated) version of Wedding Crashers, the theatrical version was rated R with sexual content, ****** and filthy language.

Despite watching the additional footage not shown in theaters, and enduring the sexual content and language, I would watch Wedding Crashers again but would not watch Talladega Nights again if you offered to pay me.

Moviegoers are fooled less often than you may think, and it becomes evident at awards time. Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, was nominated in 2007 for the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Comedy, but did not win. Wedding Crashers was nominated in 2006 for the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Comedy and did win.

Top 3 Animated Comedy Shows

ajax asked:

Comedy shows are very popular among young adults, irrespective of whether it’s animated or not. Here’s a list of the top rated ones that continue to hold audiences in complete awe and admiration.

1 – Futurama

A show much similar to the Simpsons series, it is a mix of contemporary culture and science fiction presented in an animated comedy barrage. The show is famous for the way it depicts extra terrestrial forms of life, velor clad lotharios, freaky mutants, tergalactic conspiracies and disembodied heads of celebrities through the ages. Although the TV shows were canceled, DVD releases and internet TV helped revive viewer interest making it one of the top rated American shows.

2 – Family Guy

This animated series features the adventures of the Griffin family. Every member in this family is dysfunctional and to top it all is the talking dog who keeps Stewie, the youngest one, company. Chris is the older guy who is obese and foolish, while Meg, the middle one, is the most unpopular member of the family. In spite of the fact that most characters are stupid and bereft of any logical behavior, Family Guy is a cult show in its own right. It is so popular that many families own a copy of the DVD. This TV series can be viewed online too.

3 – American Dad

This is another creation from the Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane. It is the story of Stan Smith (CIA agent) who is constantly on the alert for terrorist activity. The coolest of the characters are Roger, a sarcastic space alien who rescues Stan from Area 51, and Klaus his German speaking goldfish. This is one show that came out on DVDs very fast because of its high popularity ratings. You can watch TV episodes online, both from volume1 and volume 2 series.

So there it is – the toppers in animated comedy TV shows. Make sure you check them out on Internet TV to save time and cost.

Happy Viewing!

The Top 5 Film Comedies Since the Year 2000 on Satellite TV

Oswald Melman asked:

After a season or two without a Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson or Will Ferrell collaboration, moviegoers are starting to wonder: where have all the laughs gone?  It’s a good time to run down those satellite TV program guides and have a look back at the decade’s best comedies, a great way to cure any boredom or brighten a bad day at the office.  Here are the five best comedies since 2000.

5. Tropic Thunder.  Cut the whole movie, leave only the scenes with Tom Cruise and Tropic could still make the top 10.  Besides Cruise’s side-splitting moments, Robert Downey, Jr.’s performance as an overly-committed actor is already part of movie legend.  With Jack Black, Matthew McConaughey and Ben Stiller almost as afterthoughts (Stiller directs), this film is stocked with talent and pokes tremendous fun at the Hollywood machine.  See it on satellite TV’s premium networks like HBO and Showtime.

4. The Royal Tenenbaums. Wes Anderson’s warm tribute to dysfunctional families features a terrific cast surrounding Gene Hackman in the lead role.  Ben Stiller and Luke Wilson shine, along with Angelica Huston.  The film takes place in a near-mythical Manhattan and features director Anderson’s keen eye for detail.

3. Nacho Libre. Jack Black is a human wrecking-ball when it comes to the movies, and Nacho may be Black’s best vehicle for his peculiar brand of talent.  Solemn monk by day, cooking meals for local orphans, Black has a taste for the tight pants and wild machismo of Mexican wrestling by night.  Some of the funniest scenes ever filmed involve Nacho and Esqueleto warring with a pair of angry dwarf wrestlers.  Look for this film on satellite TV’s premium networks to brighten any bad mood.

2. Wedding Crashers. Vince Vaughn has had his fair share of great moments, but he goes out of his way for fans in this comedy, quickly becoming an all-time favorite in American films.  Co-starring Owen Wilson as a fellow crasher and the brilliant Christopher Walken as the father of a conquest, it’s Vaughn and Bradley Cooper who have the most fun (until one shoots the other).  See this film only in its uncut versions on satellite TV and get ready for the aftermath of a late-night art show in Vaughn‘s room.

1. Kung Fu Hustle.  Directed and starring Stephen Chow, this film is the best comedy to have been produced since the year 2000.  With Chow’s lead character wanting to prove his toughness, he falls in on the wrong side of an uprising.  However, his quest to use his previously unknown powers lead him to the good side, where he challenges the bad guys and helps a local slum retain its freedom.  With a load of well-incorporated digital effects — to be seen only in HD — this movie has audiences howling from the opening frame.

Brilliant comedies can sometimes be few and far between.  Thankfully, the many hd tv networks have extensive libraries to fill in the blanks.  Check out the latest deals and review directv packages online to bring the laughs to your home every day of the year.
